Data We Access
- Local Storage – your study progress (known words, spaced-repetition schedule, streaks, profiles you create, and app preferences such as language and theme) is stored only in the app's private storage on your device. It never leaves your device. There are no user accounts and we run no analytics of our own. All study features work offline.
- Advertising data (free version) – the free version shows a banner advertisement served by Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, Google may collect device information such as the advertising ID, IP address, approximate location, and ad-interaction events, under Google's privacy policy. Where required (for example in the EEA and UK), a consent dialog is shown before any ads load.
- Feedback you choose to send – the optional "Send feedback" feature sends us only what you type: your suggestion and, if you add it, a contact email for a reply. Submissions are delivered through Google Forms and stored with our Google account. Entirely voluntary; the app works fully without it.
- Text-to-Speech – the app uses your device's built-in text-to-speech engine to read Chinese words and sentences aloud. Speech is generated on your device by the engine you have installed (for example, Google Speech Services). Hanzy Study does not record audio and has no microphone permission.
How We Use Data
Study progress is processed entirely on-device. If you export a backup, the exported data goes only where you choose to put it. Advertising data is collected and used by Google to serve and measure ads in the free version; we do not receive or store it ourselves.
Third-Party Services
- Google AdMob – banner advertising in the free version. A one-time "Remove ads" purchase permanently disables ads, after which no ad requests are made and the collection described above stops.
- Google Play Billing – processes the optional "Remove ads" purchase. We never see your payment details; your entitlement can be restored through Google Play on a new device.
Children
The app is directed at a general audience of language learners aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Security & Retention
Your study data stays only on your device. Deleting the app deletes all of it; backups you export remain wherever you saved them. Data collected by Google for advertising is retained under Google's own policies.
Your Choices
- Remove all advertising — and the ad-related data collection with it — with the one-time "Remove ads" purchase.
- Where the consent dialog is offered, choose whether ads may be personalised.
- Export a backup of your progress to a location you choose.
- Clear app data or delete the app to remove all saved progress and settings.
